Q:

I am not able to find Bulgarian currency in Malta as all the currency exchange offices are telling me that they are being phased out in Bulgaria due to change to Euro in the near future, I am sure there are ATM’s at the airport to pay for a taxi correct ?

Q:

How to get to Sofia, Bulgaria?

If you select to fly, Sofia is well connected to all major airports in Europe and the Middle East. There are more than 3-4 connections per day. Tickets are inexpensive, considering the mileage. We are 3 hours away from London, an hour and a half - two from Munchen and Frankfurt, an hour away from Vienna, Athens & Istanbul. If you select to drive, consult with Google Maps or other advanced technologies.
Q:

What is the weather like in Sofia during April?

Usually April is spring in Sofia - full of blossom & color. We enjoy warm temperatures during the day between 16 - 22C. Usually it is sunny. At night cold air comes from the mountain and temperatures drop with 5-10 degrees.
Q:

Do people in Sofia speak foreign languages?

You will be pleasantly surprised by the number of people speaking English.
Q:

May I pay in Euro, US dollars or in other foreign currency?

No. You must exchange money in the nearby bank your currency to local Bulgarian Lev. Bulgarian currency is tied to the Euro and has not changed ratio since 1997. Banks charge modest exchange commission. We do not recommend other means of exchange. Withdrawing money from an ATM is also a good option. If you are left with extra Bulgarian Leva, banks will happily buy them back from you.
Q:

Are credit cards accepted as a means of payment?

In general - Yes. Visa & MasterCard are accepted in most of the establishments. American Express, Diners and JCB are available in the main hotels, but not so popular. Ask before you order if and which cards are accepted. Just as everywhere in the world, you should take precautions at ATMs and never give your card to waiters, bartenders. When you pay, you better be present at the credit card terminal. Just as everywhere, always protect your PIN.
Q:

How safe it is in Sofia?

Foreign agencies, such as US Department of State and the organizers do not see any substantial difference in street crime than in any other big city in the world. You may read the OSAC / US Department of State "Bulgaria 2014 Crime and Safety Report" by clicking here.
Q:

How about tips / gratitude?

10% is recommended, but totally to your discretion. Some restaurants and bars include that by default. Look at your bill if it is included.
